Sri Muda rep: My remarks were manipulated

Sri Muda state assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei said he is prepared to present himself to the Selangor sultan to clarify his statement over the appointment of the state secretary, which he said had been manipulated.

His special assistant, Azmizam Zaman Huri, said Shuhaimi’s remark had been manipulated by the media, particularly by Utusan Malaysia and other such media.

Azmizam also said Shuhaimi’s (right) statement dated Dec 30 was not meant for the Selangor sultan.

“On the contrary, it was meant to rebut the statement by the private secretary of the Selangor sultan as well as that of former (state) opposition leader (Dr Mohd) Khir Toyo.

“(They) made their own interpretation of the provisions of the (state constitution) Undang-undang Tubuh Kerajaan Selangor 1959.”

Shuhaimi said further that in his statement he had expressed his loyalty to the Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (below) and acknowledged the latter’s executive powers.

“What he questions is why Article 50 (executive powers of the sultan) and Article 52(1) (role of Public Service Commission to appoint the state secretary) was not read together with Article 55(1),” said Azmizam.

Azmizam, who is also PKR Youth vice-chief, said Shuhaimi had clarified all these when met last night.

Azmizam said Shuhaimi had also explained his statement "beraja di mata dan bersultan di hati" (acting arbitrarily) which has been put in question.

“He did not direct this statement to anybody in particular.

“On the contrary, (the phrase) is just a reminder that any action by any party done according to their desires without taking into consideration the provisions and conventions of the (state) constitution will not be accepted by the state.

“However, he stressed that if the ruler felt slighted and views the statement as being directed at him, Shuhaimi as his subject is ready to face the sultan and clarify the situation,” Azmizam said.

“At this point, there has been no directive (to meet the sultan), yet,” he added.
