Utusan told to stop obsession with Teo's attire

Survivor: YB Teo Nie Ching, the best defence to idiots like those in Utusan Malaysia is to continue what you are doing. Ignore them because it is not that they are more pious, it is more because they are trying to gain political mileage for their political master.

Remember, you are not a Muslim and you do not have to follow them by wearing something that you feel uncomfortable. Just wear decently like what you are wearing in the photo. It's good enough.

Albert: Frankly as far as I am concerned, Utusan is an extremely dangerous newspaper and should be closed down by any right-thinking and sane government long ago. The newspaper not only is capable of telling and spreading lies and falsehoods, but it is also creating and reinforcing racial disharmony and hatred.

Who are these delinquent Muslims in Utusan who think that they can play God by telling non-Muslims what to wear, eat, drink or behave? Don't their infantile minds know that this country is multiracial, multireligious and multicultural with 40 percent non-Muslims?

All right-thinking and sane Malaysians (be it Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, etc) should boycott Utusan. For the good of the country, businessmen and companies should do the same by not placing advertisements in this despicable newspaper.

Ksn: Does anybody in the country other than Umno diebards and fanatics take Utusan seriously? I doubt it. Umno, which owns Utusan, should realise that the newspaper is playing the fanatics role for Umno, and to Umno's detriment.

Terus: The Teo episode shows the predominant male chauvinism in the Muslim world. Instead of practicing self-control, they blame it on women's tight or revealing clothes for tempting them. They are still living in the medieval ages despite this being Year 2011.

They refused to accept the fact that their mothers and sisters are women. God bless Malaysia for having majority of modern and right-thinking Malaysian Muslims.

Geronimo: This may sound a little far fetched, but I believe someone in Utusan is smitten by our lovely YB. How else can you explain the constant attention given to her when all that have been published so far lack credibility. Instead of sending her boxes of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers, the only way to draw her attention is publish some stories about her, ridiculous as they may sound. Well, YB Teo, you now have a secret admirer.

Rolls-Royce: We know Umno and Utusan today are worse than PAS of the past and we know what happened to PAS of the past, don't we? Some people never learn or are just too arrogant on their way to oblivion.

Since our PM likes to borrow lots of cliché from the US, may I suggest that he reminds Utusan that it is not the look, but the content of one's character that matters.

By the way, between "he and she", I would prefer she anytime. Not that I have tight cloth to look at, although it is a bonus (I mean strictly from a non-chauvinistic way), I think women are generally more responsible and less corrupted.

I think Pakatan Rakyat should seriously put more women as candidates; they will do this country a lot of good.

Hwa Shi-Hsia: Sexism is a huge problem in Malaysia and it's a sign of some men's contempt for women that they pick on petty stuff like appearance.

Adun (state representative) Hannah Yeoh said that some people she was discussing business with refused to take her seriously because "you look like my daughter". Can you imagine a constituent telling a male Adun or MP of the same age that "you dress like a punk" or "you look like my teenage son"?

Tkc: This ridiculous episode reminds me a long time ago when one of my primary school classmates (who was the least brightest pupil in class) complained to the teacher that the word "vagina" is in the dictionary.

The teacher's reply was something like, "You deliberately look for the word, so why are you complaining?"

Bishop Paul's tenure likely to be activist

Anonymous: Bishop Paul Tan is revered for his tolerance and has no particular need nor concern for politics. Under his watch, I believe that the ‘Allah' issue will be solved amicably. So if the PKR and its three-member coalition hope to have support from him, forget it.

Lucia: I met Bishop Paul Tan two weeks ago and had wanted to interview him on his new role as the head of the Catholic Bishops' Conference but he said he can't give the interview until he's officially the head (on Jan 1). He used to be very much an activist before he became a bishop. I think he had mellowed a bit.

By the way, people should not be too hard to judge Archbishop Murphy Pakiam. I remember reading somewhere the Christmas party was held in an open car park and there are no crucifixes in the car park for a start.

Anonymous2: By the way, I still don't understand why the people blame the PM over this issue. The problem does not lies with the PM, but rather a bunch of ‘eunuchs' who tried to please the PM. If the PM ask them to strip while singing hymns, they would probably comply too.

Change: Islam as practised by Umno Muslims are different from other countries. Not all Malaysian Muslims follow what Umno Muslims are practising. Forced conversion is victory for Umno. Snatching dead bodies is victory for Umno.

I read the Al-Quran besides my Bible. It is beautiful religion. For clarity and understanding of the Quoranic verses, I read explanatory books written by Arab and Egypt scholars and not those written by Malaysian Muslims.

I think Malaysian Muslims understanding of their own religion is very shallow and they fear other religions. Fifty-three years of Umno rule has destroyed the good image of Islam in Malaysia.
