Deputy president Dr S Subramaniam (right) said the caste system mentioned in the novel is sensitive to Indians and will not meet the objective of its usage.
‘Interlok’ written by national laureate Abdullah Hussain is based on integration of the Malays, Chinese and Indians from the early 1900s until Merdeka.
He will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin next week and will then send a letter to the ministry.
The human resources minister said the Indian community felt that what was written in the novel did not paint a true picture of the thinking of present day Indians.
“If changes are not made, I fear that the novel will present a wrong view of the Indian community as it is read by students of all races," he added.
