A small commotion broke out inside the Selangor state secretariat building today when four members of the Malaysia Makkal Sakthi Party (MMSP) Youth wing could not deliver a memorandum to Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim protesting against the ban on the use of the 1Malaysia logo on billboards.

The incident occurred at about 12.30pm today when the group had an argument with the media officer of the MB's office, Tuan Nazuri Tuan Ismail, for receiving the memorandum on behalf of the MB.

MMSP secretary-general S Sutager told reporters that the party's Youth wing was disappointed because they could not deliver the memorandum to Abdul Khalid or state executive councillor in charge of local government Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew.

"Abdul Khalid or Liu should come personally and receive the memorandum from us if they are sincere in championing democracy and freedom in this country.

"The people have willingly taken ownership of the 1Malaysia slogan as their own and not as one that belongs to any political party.

"As stressed by the prime minister, the 1Malaysia concept is for nation-bulding, and not for political purposes," he said.

The three-page memorandum, among other things, urged the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government to withdraw the ban, which has now reportedly been frozen pending a review.

'Crash course to learn 1Malaysia'

The Selangor government had imposed a state-wide ban on using the 1Malaysia logo on billboards and business advertisements.

Ronnie Liu had said that the 1Malaysia billboards were a political message from the BN federal government and would not be allowed under the local by-laws.

MMSP president RS Thanenthiran said the Selangor government should not play politics with people's unity in banning the 1Malaysia symbol on billboards and advertisements throughout the state as it was contrary to the spirit of democracy and freedom.

"The prime minister is for everyone and any idelogy or concept introduced by him should be well received without any prejudice.

"I seriously think that the Selangor government should go for a crash course to learn the 1Malaysia concept," he said.

Meanwhile, Tuan Nazuri said the Selangor government would deliberate on the 1Malaysia logo ban at the state executive council meeting on Wednesday.

Earlier, about 50 MMSP members and ordinary citizens gathered outside the state secretariat building at about 11.15am and shouted slogans criticising PKR, one of the parties of Pakatan Rakyat which administers Selangor.

However, good sense prevailed when the police were called in to prevent any untoward incident. The group later left at about 12.50pm.
