Controversial Jais chief named new S'gor state sec

The director of the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) Mohd Khusrin Munawi will be appointed the new Selangor state secretary effective Jan 1.
Mohd Khusrin ( top ), 54, replaces Ramli Mahmud, 56, who will end his service on Dec 31. Bernama reports the announcement was made by the Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Sidek Hassan in a statement released today.
Mohd Khusrin is no stranger to controversy when Jais took action against popular

It had taken a similar stance against other Islamic preachers in the past. The department under him was also responsible in taking action against the spread of Wahabi teachings.
The department had also acted on Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching for speaking in a surau, a move which was condemned by Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad as well as Mohd Asri.
Jais had also in the past two weeks had taken action against Syiite followers .
According to Mohd Sidek, Mohd Khusrin, who holds a degree in Economics specialising in the field of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, was previously the Kajang and Kuala Langat district council chairperson.
Ramli, who was previously the Shah Alam mayor and the Ampang Jaya municipal council chairperson, had been in the public service for 31 years.
Mohd Khusrin’s post in Jais will be taken over by Sabak Bernam district officer Marzuki Hussin, 56, Both Mohd Khusrin and Marzuki’s appointments had received the approval from the Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
In light of Jais' history with the Pakatan-led state government, Mohd Khusrin’s appointment as the new state secretary may cause some friction with the present Selangor administration under Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.
