Up to 177,857 new voters were registered between July and September, taking the total number of voters in the country to 11.53 million, according to the supplementary electoral rolls for the third quarter of 2010 gazetted yesterday.

The Election Commission (EC), in a statement today, said 205,183 voters were listed in the supplementary rolls, of whom 27,326 had applied for a change of polling district.

During the same period, 57,036 names were removed from the rolls for reasons such as death and revocation of citizenship, the statement said.

The EC also said that it had yet to resolve 580 disputes involving 37 parliamentary constituencies brought to its attention during the display of the supplementary electoral rolls between Oct 27 and Nov 2.

"Therefore, a total of 50,206 new voter applications and 6,094 applications for change of polling district in the 37 constituencies could not be verified and had to be postponed until all disputes have been solved," the statement said.

Those wishing to purchase a copy of the third supplementary electoral rolls are advised to order from the EC headquarters in Putrajaya.
