MIC president G Palanivel will hold a brainstorming session with MIC's central working committee (CWC) members on Dec 23.

He said it would not be a CWC meeting as such but more a session for discussions.

"It will be the first meeting of this kind. The CWC is the most powerful body of the Malaysian Indian Congress. My duty is to listen to them, their views. Many of them are veterans and have been in the field for a long time and carry a vast experience," Palanivel said in a statement today.

He said the discussions would centre on issues such as uniting the Indians, being inclusive, bringing in more professionals into the party, getting closer to the grassroots, listening to everybody, including the views of the Indian opposition members of parliament and state assemblies.

“We want to work together with everybody, including members who were expelled from the party. But the party’s constitution has to be adhered to in all matters. I cannot be above the constitution. I do not have enemies and I don’t want any. I want to consolidate the party," said Palanivel.

The MIC chief also said that discussions would also focus on ensuring that those wanting to form new branches must simultaneously ensure that "there would be voters who were localised in accordance with the vote box".

"This will make us more effective, focused and give us more negotiating power,” he said.
