There is little change to the Penang DAP leadership line-up as delegates voted in many familiar faces.

NONE The election results started trickling out from 5pm, with incumbent state chairperson Chow Kon Yeow ( left ) and national deputy secretary-general Chong Eng returned into the party's 15-member Penang committee.

Chow has helmed the state leadership post for the past 11 years. Today, he has retained the post for the sixth term.

Only one new face was voted in - Lay Hock Peng (Kepala Batas).

The highly-anticipated election saw as many as 88 candidates vying for the 15-seat state committee.

A total of 496 out of 649 (92 percent) delegates participated in the polls. There were 450 spoilt votes.

The new line-up for the state committee 2010-2012:

Best available

In a press conference called at 7pm, Chow thanked delegates for showing confidence in his leadership.

He said the members who were appointed were some of the best available.

"This team will prepare for the coming general elections. We will take on the challenge and work together as a team and will assist the state government in carrying out its policies for the people," said Chow.

"We will work very hard and hope that we will perform well for the coming elections," he added.

The national DAP leadership had earlier backed Chow to retain his post.

Congratulations all round

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who is also the DAP national secretary-general congratulated all the delegates and the new line-up.

He urged that the new leadership work together and, especially, with PKR and PAS, to prepare Pakatan for the elections, speculated as being slated for early next year.

NONE "The first task for this new leadership is to prepare for the coming Pakatan convention in Kepala Batas on Dec 19," he added.

Speaking at a press conference after presenting his speech at the DAP Penang convention at Komtar, Guan Eng had openly declared his support for Chow, who is the Tanjung MP.

A significant number of DAP leaders declined, however, to contest. These include Guan Eng, who is Penang chief minister, DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh, Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong, state executive councillor Lydia Ong Kok Fooi and Jawi assemblyman Tan Beng Huat.
