Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Fadillah Yusuf has told the four BN component parties in Sarawak to buck up as the state prepares for an election in the coming months.

The need for the BN to not rest on its laurels so as to win the next state and general election is a wake-up call for Sarawak BN, said Fadillah, who is deputy minister of science, technology and innovation.

NONE He said there was a clear directive by not only Prime Minister Najib Razak but also Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud to start working and not take things easy.

"At the end of the day, voters will judge us based on our service to the people. So, if you are complacent and takes things for granted, I won't be surprised if BN candidates are defeated at the next polls," Fadillah told reporters at the Sarawak Federal Secretary Innovation and Creativity Awards 2010 presentation in Kuching last night.

On Thursday, PBB information chief Adenan Satem said BN candidates could no longer afford to rest on their laurels because the people's mindset had changed tremendously with the easy access to information.

Adenan, who is special advisor in the Chief Minister’s Department, had said that the people no longer voted along party lines and were also not as appreciative as before when given government assistance because they believed that it was the government’s job to look after them.  

Cyber war campaign to be launched

In listening to the grouses of the people, Fadillah said, PBB Youth was already on the ground not only to do charitable or political work but also cover the social aspects of providing services to them.

He said the ongoing field programmes were being conducted at the branch level in all the 71 state constituencies, in keeping with the instruction from the party leadership.

A BN Youth seminar was also held recently, which was attended by all the BN component parties, comprising PBB, the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), he said.  

He said the PBB Youth media unit was also launching a cyber war campaign to disseminate information on issues affecting Sarawak.

In this way, issues could be effectively explained without having to resort to personal attacks, he said.
