PKR Youth chief candidate Badrul Hisham Shaharin said he would not accept appointments for party positions until his grouses with the recently concluded internal polls are addressed.

Better known as Chegubard among his followers, Badrul Hisham said he rejects the results of the internal polls and wants the party to reply to his written complaints.

"I have submitted my written complaints which list several irregularities but there has been no written response todate,"  he said Badrul in a statement today.

badrul hisham shaharin altantuya police questioning 290509 03During the polls, he had mounted a strong challenge to incumbent Shamsul Iskandar Akin but the latter eventually won, amidst allegations of irregularities.

On Nov 12, Badrul Hisham (left) submitted a letter to party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, among others alleging that her husband and party de facto boss Anwar Ibrahim had interfered with the polls.

The full results of the party polls were announced on Nov 28 and the new office bearers are expected to meet tonight and on Sunday to decide on the personalities to fill other vacancies.

Don't ignore complaints

Badrul Hisham said that he was not rejecting positions or the poll results not because he was disappointed at his loss, but stressed that flaws with the polls must be addressed.

"What I'm raising is a question of credibility and not whether someone wins or loses. We always question the credibility of the Election Commission, but when we face similar challenges, we fail to show credibility.

"Having direct elections is a brave historic achievement. This is a new process and it has many weaknesses but we cannot use this as an excuse to sweep things under the carpet," he said.

He said that the electoral irregularities could be seen from the nominations for division leadership all the way to the election of a permanent chairperson during the party congress.

"Everyone, including observers and the press, saw how even the show of hands to vote for the permanent chairperson during the PKR Youth congress would be counted through fraudulent means," he said.

Due to this, Badrul Hisham said that should he accept appointment for any post, he would seen to be compromising.

Not having a position is not an excuse for non-performance, he added.

" I've said before that even without positions, I would faithfully continue my duties to strengthen the party because I trust PKR to be the best party to bring reforms for the country.

"However, PKR also has to be prepared to ensure democracy within itself," he said.
