Youth leaders on need to tackle 'four negatives'

The keynote address delivered by BN chairman Najib Abdul Razak at the BN Convention in Kuala Lumpur today should be taken as a good reminder especially to young leaders and members of the BN.

BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (left) said the reminder on the four negative characteristics or habits namely delusion, amnesia, inertia and arrogance must be overcome immediately.

"As such, based on this reality, I hope the BN Youth can carry this responsibility and convey this message to the young generation," he said when approached by reporters after the opening of the BN Convention at Wisma MCA, here today.

He said the young generation must be given a clear explanation on the role and responsibilities of the BN which was now the best choice for the young generation in leading the country to greater heights.

"Compared to the opposition who are described as dream merchants who promise all kinds of facilities to the people, they actually are incapable of fulfilling these promises," he said.

Meanwhile, Puteri Umno chief Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the message conveyed by the prime minister should be regarded as an amulet for the BN machinery to make solid preparation in facing the next general election.

"In his speech, the chairman emphasised on four diseases that frequently hit the party which has been in power for so long. This should become a reminder to the BN to close ranks now and to face the coming general election so that what transpired in 2008 would not recur," she said.

She said the Puteri machinery, which was aware of the need for change, was now actively approaching the young voters to win their hearts through various programmes carried out by all divisions.

"The Puteri movement is ready with its operations room and we have also drawn up measures and identified the young voters who will be our target group.

"Insyaallah, this will continue and we have just completed the first phase and started on the second phase earlier this month by getting down to the grassroots," said Rosnah.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong (right) said the words of encouragement and motivation from Najib in the various languages was to show the racial diversity in the country but with a very interesting objective and had succeeded in inspiring the young generation in particular.

Wee, who is also a deputy education minister, said the people should be wise in evaluating the opposition pact that did not have a common direction and return to choose the BN which was a party that looked after the interests of all races.

"I was touched by Najib's speech earlier... we should take it as a lesson from the last general election and should be in greater spirit and should not give up in improving our weaknesses to bring prosperity especially in resolving the problems of the people," he said.
