Nizar: Rosmah should dress the Islamic way

Perak Pakatan leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin urged Premier Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor to dress the Islamic way to reflect Umno's stand as an Islamic party.
The Perak Pakatan leader said if Umno regarded itself as Islamic party, then the dressing of the wife of its president should reflect this.
Perak Pakatan leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin urged Premier Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor to dress the Islamic way to reflect Umno's stand as an Islamic party.
He said this in his speech at the Perak budget 2011 state assembly sitting today in Ipoh.
"I have the highest respect for Najib as prime minister of the country and his wife Rosmah as the first lady of the nation. However, Umno's claim to uphold the principles of Islam may sound hollow if Rosmah does not dress according to its teachings."
He urged the Perak Mufti and Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir to convince Rosmah (left).
Nizar seem to suggest that the first lady should wear the tudung (head covering) to reflect Islamic views.
According to Nizar many state Umno members later came to him and supported his advice to Rosmah.
Nizar's one hour speech which touched on several religious and economic issues at the August House created a political storm and forced the BN lawmakers to go the defense of Umno.
Some sensitive issues touching on race and religion and the unity of Pakatan were raised .
In his speech Nizar also touched on the alternative Pakatan budget for the state, which is based on the principles of justice, trust, accountability, transparency, integrity and welfare.
He said there should be equality in the distribution of the state's wealth among the 2.4 million Perakians in the silver state.
One principle of Pakatan is that such distribution should not be based on colour, race, religion or culture he pointed out.
He lashed out at Umno and MCA elected members, alleging they were jealous at seeing PAS and DAP united and working effectively whereas he claimed that the parties in BN are not seeing eye to eye in all matters.
He said the background of the success of the Pakatan manifesto common policy is based on the four principles as enshrined in the Federal Constitution - to respect the privileges and rights of bumiputeras , to respect royalty, to recognise Malay as the official language of the country and Islam as its official religion, while respecting other religions also.
He also urged the state government to practice prudent spending of public funds as Perak is facing another deficit budget next year.
