Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng has been slapped with a show-cause letter over his antics at the Selangor DAP convention yesterday where elections for the state leadership were held.

NONEBefore the results were announced, an overenthusiastic Lim had grabbed one of the microphones on the floor and cried: “Teresa! You won!”.

This interrupted Teresa Kok, who was later crowned Selangor DAP chief, midway through her speech and drew shouts of disapproval from the delegates.

The chairperson of the convention then ordered the ushers to remove Lim from the venue.

Somehow, Lim managed to find his way back into the venue as the results were being announced and was heard shouting in triumph. This led to his second ejection.

Contacted today, DAP disciplinary committee chairperson Tan Kok Wai said that Lim was issued the show-cause letter today.

“He has to submit a written explanation within 14 days and explain his behaviour,” said Tan.

Lim makes apology

Tan said that once the committee has considered Lim’s explanations, it will decide on whether to commence disciplinary action against him.

“We take the matter very seriously and the public has raised concerns over this episode... As elected representatives, there are high expectations from the public over their behaviour,” he said.

In a two-paragraph statement today, Lim apologised to the party and the public over the debacle.

“I will accept any disciplinary action from the party,” he added.

When told about the apology, Tan said: “That is a separate matter... He had gone against party discipline”.
