Anwar faces crunch time in PKR congress

Ghkok: If "Malaysians feel he (Anwar Ibrahim) is being persecuted" and "Everybody thinks he will be found guilty and go to jail", then the right thing for everybody to do is to vote against BN in order to put an end to the persecution and unwind 52 years of tyranny and oppression.

However, if nobody wants to do that, then the problem is not the political parties, instead the problem is the voters. If voters are waiting for the perfect opposition, this will never come under the current oppressive regime because every potential opposition leader is bound to be subjected to oppression.

The trick is never to place our hopes on an individual, but instead, to place our hopes and dreams on the shoulders of the opposition movement. A vote for Pakatan Rakyat is a vote for the opposition movement, not a vote for Anwar Ibrahim or Nik Aziz Nik Mat or Lim Kit Siang.

They can arrest all the current leaders but when the time comes, other leaders will emerge to take their place, to form the next federal government and cement the two-party system.

Michael Angelo: Dear DSAI (Anwar Ibrahim), the fact that the entire nation is fascinated with the PKR elections merely shows how relevant PKR is and the importance of PKR in the coming GE13.

I was extremely surprised to see all the BN television prime-time news i.e. 8pm news, carrying stories of the PKR elections. Although the stories are negative in nature, it nevertheless implies that PKR is a force to be reckoned with, and the need for the entire government machinery to put PKR down, not forgetting your travails in Sodomy II.

Not to worry, PKR and DSAI, we will be with you come GE13. Hang in there.

Habib RAK: The reality is that Anwar Ibrahim is indeed the de facto leader of PKR. It is done in order to recognise a ground reality to accommodate an unusual situation.

Anwar is still being hunted down by Umno/BN in concert with all the so-called independent institutions like PDRM (police force), Attorney-General's Chambers and the judiciary. Other government agencies are also lending their support to curtail Anwar.
Thus, it's an unusual situation that calls for an unusual remedy. This is the reality. Let's deal with it instead of challenging it with reasons meant for normal situation.

Pietiring: At this moment of time there seems to be nothing grandeur than 'de facto leader' post for Anwar. The conferment is befitting as DSAI is the founder and leader of PKR. And the suffering DSAI went through and going to go through may be the soul of PKR.

This post must be personal-to-holder, and when he leaves for whatever reasons, he carries away the post with him. And Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail sitting in the presidential chair naturally compliments the 'de facto' post.


Hudud law: Only solution to baby dumping woes

Disgusted: Hudud law will cause more baby dumping and abortions for fear of punishment by authorities.

So PAS wants to stone to death the woman and unborn child together under hudud law and they think this will solve the problem. Isn't that double murder by authorities? What about the male party? He gets off scot-free?

The whole reason for all the unwanted pregnancies is purely the ‘gatal' factor. Any tight enforcement or punishment will not deter people from illicit sex. People must be taught to respect the sanctity of marriage and not engage in promiscuous sexual activity. Most cases involved school boys and girls.

Sex education and religious education is the answer, not hudud laws.

G Annamalai: Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi, why are you not talking about whipping and stoning of the corrupted leaders? They are the real sinners in this country. Please get your priorities right.

Why don't you recommend, during every Friday sermons in mosques throughout the country, to make it mandatory to all imam to preach against corruption and give current examples so that fellow Muslims will understand and appreciate the seriousness of the problem.

I bet it will transform the country for better.

Tharmendran: RMAF detention mala fide

Sandhurst: The army should wait for the outcome of the trial on the theft of the jet engines, which is of great public interest. If he escapes sentence for the theft, he should than face charges of desertion. If he is jailed for theft, he can still face desertion charges. To take him into custody now raises suspicion.

N Tharmendran appears to allege that he has been made into a scapegoat and it is for the court to decide whether there is any merit to the claim. The Air Force will be affected by the outcome of Tharmendran's trial for theft and if they are so keen to take custody for him now, what guarantee is there they will not influence the outcome of the trial by tampering with the accused.

The case of the theft is of urgent public interest, the charges of desertion can wait, Tharmendran is not going anywhere, he has shown no signs of absconding. The public needs an assurance that the Tharmendran who comes to court to face theft charges gives evidence on his own free will.

Cala: The safety of Tharmendran in the hands of the Air Force personnel is the concern of every one of us, not just his family and his lawyer. After Teoh Beng Hock incident, anything can happen to anybody in the hands of the public servants. The only way to allay further fear is to allow time to pass, and in the many decades to come, rebuild the lost trust.
