As expected, incumbent PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who is also known as ‘Sam’,  retained his position after the recently-concluded party elections.

NONEAligned to deputy president candidate Azmin Ali, Shamsul’s team also swept the deputy presidency as well as the three vice-president posts.

But an impressive 13 out of the 20 elected positions in the wing were won by new faces, with even more women elected into leadership.

Speaking after the wing’s annual congress in Petaling Jaya this evening, Shamsul Iskandar also said that he will still consider calls to co-opt rival Badrul Hisham Shaharin into the leadership.

“I will definitely accommodate him. I have no problems with that,” said Shamsul Iskandar during the press conference.

Efforts to close ranks

In his final winding-up speech as movement deputy president, Fariz Musa had called for Shamsul Iskandar to “appoint Badrul into a high position” in efforts to close ranks and boost solidarity after the party elections.

There are still five positions in the exco that can be appointed to as well as “numerous” bureaus that can be set up.
