The police have rejected a DAP application for a permit to hold a gathering at the Batu Kawa Old Bazaar here tomorrow.
This means that the party cannot hold the scheduled dinner, themed 'Solidarity with YB Ting Tze Hui', at the venue.
Kuching police chief Assistant Commissioner Mun Kock Keong said today that it was not the right time to organise such a gathering.
"We have to reject the application from the DAP. Under the law, we do not need to give any reason.
"If there is any objection, they (DAP members) can appeal to the Sarawak police commissioner (Mohmad Salleh)," he told reporters at a press conference at the district police headquarters here today.
Meanwhile, Bandar Kuching member of parliament and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen said those who had purchased tickets for the event would get a refund at the venue tomorrow.
