Star and New Straits Times led with the story of the mandatory requirement for employers of foreign workers to provide their employees with medical insurance from Jan 1.

Star also dedicated much of its front page to a photograph of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Koh Tsu Koon paying his last respects to Dr Lim Chong Eu who passed away on Wednesday.

Malay newspapers

Utusan Malaysia joined English dailies by highlighting news of compulsory employer-borne private insurance for foreign workers starting from January 2011.

Also making headlines in Utusan was a directive from Agriculture Minister Noh Omar that oil and gas companies to manage their own distribution to curb diesel smuggling.

Berita Harian led with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's call for China and the United States to use their influence to push for a resolution to the current North-South Korean conflict.

Chinese newspapers

Sin Chew Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau followed the trend by leading with news of the compulsory medical insurance for foreign workers.

Oriental Daily front-paged its exclusive interview with opposition leader and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, quoting him as saying Pakatan Rakyat is prepared in the event the Barisan National (BN) jails him for alleged sodomy.

China Press highlighted the federal government's decision to accord the late Dr Lim Chong Eu a state funeral to honour his contributions.

Editorial

New Straits Times said that the Parliament roof leakage shows that the building requires total renovation, even if this means relocating the federal legislature temporarily.

Berita Harian said that Gerakan leaders should follow the lead of its recently deceased founder Lim to win back the confidence of Penangites, especially the Chinese community.

His death was also the focus of Sin Chew Daily and Nanyang Siang Pau editorials, with both paying their respects to the leader by hailing  his immeasurable contributions to the country.
