The 'Mat Rempit' or 'hell riders' who often indulge in illegal racing and have special talents will be trained to become professional racers through the campaign 'Ride It Right' or 'Mat Rempit Ride...Don't Helter Skelter'.

The campaign is being organised by the Royal Malaysia Police together with UMW Pennzoil Distribution and Eramaster Resources.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the campaign, in addition to educating youths to ride motorcycles in a safer manner, also aimed to find talents who could become professional riders in the motoring arena.

"This is a positive cooperation with the private sector to curb the 'Mat Rempit' phenomenon and to show the youths the way to move in the right direction and to get closer to them," he told reporters after launching the campaign at the Federal Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman, here today.
