The Penans, who face re-settlement over the construction of the RM3 billion hydro-dam in Murum near Belaga, will be allocated sizeable reserves to hunt and collect jungle products.

Belaga state assemblyman Liwan Lagang said this would be among the privileges they would enjoy.

He said the Tegulang River area was one of two spots identified for their re-settlement.

Liwan was speaking to reporters after a function organised by the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry at the Sungai Asap Resettlement Area near here last night.

Deputy Minister Joseph Salang officiated the function which was attended by more than 1,000 people, including Hulu Rajang member of parliament Billy Abit Joo.

Liwan said more than 1,000 people from seven Penan and Kenyah Badeng areas would be re-settled.

They include those from Long Uba, Long Singu, Long Tangau, Long Menapa, Long Malim, Long Wat and Long Luar. The Kenyah Badeng group is from Long Malim.
