Sarawak is considering the possibility of listing its health and beauty services such as spa centres under its Sarawak Best brand.

This service sector which has great potential will be a new category to be introduced under Sarawak Best brand as it has great potential to be marketed in the domestic and global markets, said Minister in the Chief Minister's Department, Fatimah Abdullah.

She said this to reporters after chairing the Sarawak Best committee meeting in Kuching today.

Sarawak Best is a quality certification that was introduced in 2006 for the state's well known food and non-foods products that meet the criteria set by the state government as part of its strategy to boost cottage industries.

Among the conditions to be met by the products include strict adherence to good hygienic practice and high commercial potential.

Initially a total of 27 products have been given Sarawak Best certification valid for two-years including layer cake and fish crackers.

On the meeting today, she said they discussed the list of potential new products to be given Sarawak Best certification.

She said a total of 38 new products made by 30 local entrepreneurs had been identified.

She said the final decision on whether the list of new products can be awarded Sarawak Best certification will be known May next year.

"Among the latest products awaiting Sarawak Best certification are black pepper sauce, chilli sauce and shrimp paste (belacan)," she said.

She said entrepreneurs who obtain the certificate will be invited to take part in the national and international trade expo that will greatly enhance their networking potential.
