It's official: Zaid to quit PKR

Ferd Tan: I wonder why Zaid Ibrahim is still stubborn in not wanting to leave PKR when all his statements point towards it. He wants to be sacked by the party - is that his real motive?

It is sinister of him to wait for the marching order from the party before he moves. He had said earlier that he only had issues with the party leaders and not the party, but his actions show otherwise. Now he comes with a vengeance to destroy not only the party leaders he dislikes, but also the well-being of the party that he proclaimed to love.

You can see clearly that he is trying to sabotage the Pakatan Rakyat unity by pitting PAS against PKR in saying that PAS should take over the lead in the opposition coalition; and he went as far as to even name some PAS leaders for the job.

Zaid, why are you prolonging your - and our - agony by staying put? What more do you want? Still not satisfied with the 'pound of flesh' extracted?

Loo Soon Fatt: Zaid is obviously playing a cat-and-mouse game by creating on-going suspense/confusion in PKR until he gets sacked. Maybe he is flying to meet blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin for support and advice in forming a new party.

If Anwar Ibrahim steps down now, can he guarantee that PKR will solve all its problems and everything will be fine and it will be ready to lead Pakatan in the coming general elections? Based on his track record, Zaid is indeed a problem child.

Faz: Zaid, spare us the pain and quit PKR. You will do a service to yourself, PKR and the opposition at large. Already too much water has passed under the bridge. Even politics, being the art of possibilities, has its limits.

You have proven to be very inflexible. Without the political wisdom to lead a political party, you should just form an NGO to serve as a voice of change.

Anon: Be brave Zaid, and quit. Don't dilly-dally. Form a new party quickly. Thousands are waiting to join and will hero worship you as a president with principles. The new party's slogan will be ‘My Way Or No Way'.

Avatar: I was very troubled when I read the headlines in the The Star this morning about the statements made by Zaid.

If there are liars and cheats in PKR - it's only you, Zaid, for lying about your vision and mission and cheating the nation of your wisdom to bring about change. You need to change yourself and be a team player before you can think of changing the political landscape of the nation.

Please listen to the song from Michael Jackson, ‘Man in Mirror'. Change yourself before you change the nation. I am sure the people in BN are happy with your efforts to destroy the opposition. You must be a very satisfied man now, Zaid.

Concerned Father: The mole had Plan A - to become deputy president and slowly kill PKR. When that plan did not work, he switched to Plan B - create noise so that the party will sack him.

If he is at all the gentleman he claims to be, then he should leave the party and keep his mouth shut.

Aisyah: Pakatan and PKR have to know that people are upset when they are in a mess, even if it's an internal party mess.

While groups out there are working towards solutions, PKR must stop being arrogant as its demise or stay in Parliament rests on voters and not PKR members. When push comes to shove, votes will eventually rid PKR of Umno-ism by voting them out, although perhaps not in GE13.

Sandakan: Zaid is someone who is consistent and honest. The saying that there are no honest politicians is quite true. It is difficult for him to stay in politics as we have crooks in PKR who twist and turn for their own personal benefit.

Monsterball: He should be sacked. He said he is a messenger of truth. He said he will form a new party if sacked. So sack him and get rid of this messenger of truth, or else he will keep opening his big mouth to get attention every now and then.

Zaid is like a big baby, one who keeps saying ‘Me, me, me... I, I, I.' Zaid does not belong in politics. If PKR keeps him there, Anwar is asking for trouble.

Will he take up the role as a lawyer to defend all those being arrested?

Anonymous: Zaid must realise that in politics, there are ups and downs; it is a never smooth-sailing cruise downstream. Just look at PKR - it had only one MP when elections were called on March 8, 2008. And it won the most number of seats among the opposition - 31!

A politician must know that he may be down one day and up the next day. Look at Nelson Mandela, who was in prison for 28 years. Who could imagine that he would be released, become president of South Africa, forgave the whites who imprisoned him, and later gave up his position to his deputy? It must have been a roller-coastal ride for him.

Look at Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman who won the Burmese election with the majority of seats of her party. But instead of taking power, was imprisoned by the military junta; and only this week she was freed after 15 years.

With Zaid gone, will there be a mutiny?

Iikiedetector: I have been reading Zaid's comments since the saga began. My personal opinion is that Zaid cannot be a party leader.

I remember his campaign in Hulu Selangor - he lacked the common people touch unlike Anwar Ibrahim and were too distant from the rakyat. When the real work begins, he will not succeed. You think it is easy to start and actually run a new party?

His balloon will burst, once the supporters see him in action. Zaid, it is a matter of staying power and not only issuing press statements from the comfort of your blog. One more thing, you don't bring yourself up by putting others down.

Mikey: Unfortunately, for PKR supporters and Anwar diehards, if you are not with them, you are against them. If you are not hardcore reformasi, you are either pro-BN or a fool. How do you hope to convince the rakyat that you are different from BN when you think like them and act like them in your treatment of dissent? Najib Razak's 1Malaysia and Reformasi are both mere slogans.

Donkey Kong: Based on what we could observe, I am not hopeful that Pakatan Rakyat will be better than the BN government. Still, we must thank Anwar Ibrahim & Co for daring us to dream of a better future and to vote for change.

Ghkok: In a climate of oppression, repression and treachery that we have suffered for the last 52 years in this country, if you are an opposition politician, you are judged on your loyalty, courage and staying power in the long fight for justice and liberty.

Many people talk about it but not many people can do it. It takes courage, defiance, persistence, stamina and more than anything else, an incorruptible dedication to the cause of justice and liberty.

No, Zaid Ibrahim doesn't have it. Good riddance.
