MB challenges Noh to back up RM800,000 claim

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Noh Omar should reveal to the public how the cost of Yayasan Selangor's 40th anniversary celebration reached RM800,000.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim today said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Noh Omar should reveal to the public how the cost of Yayasan Selangor's 40th anniversary celebration reached RM800,000.
It was previously reported that the cost of the celebration was RM300,000 including for a luncheon and that 90 per cent of the cost had been paid to an event management company in advance.
"Let him (Noh) come out with the costing. I'm happy to see how the figure has reached that much," he told the press after launching the website 'Kembalikan Hak Air Rakyat Kepada Rakyat' (Return the People's Right to Water to the People) on the sidelines of the state assembly sitting in Shah Alam today.
Noh told a press conference last Saturday that the actual cost was more than RM800,000.
Khalid said out of the RM300,000, RM100,000 were for the marquees.
He said the state government would try to recover the 90 per cent deposit already paid as the event which was supposed to be held today had been cancelled.
Accounts not audited in four years
Khalid said the state government would also disclose to the public what had been done in Yayasan Selangor for the last four years.
"Yayasan Selangor's accounts have not been audited in the last four years. Noh Omar should be concerned about this."
On the website, he said it would provide a platform for the people to support the state government's effort to reclaim the right to manage its own water industry which was currently managed by the private sector.
"The right to water is a basic right of the people and it should not be commercialised while the water tariff should be reasonable."
Khalid said the state government aimed to collect as many signatures as possible from the people and planned to send a memorandum on the matter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 5, this year.
