The victors in today’s Perak DAP election has magnanimously offered two state vice-chief posts to the defeated candidates, former state vice-chief A Sivanesan and former state deputy chief M Kulasegaran.

Incumbent party state chief Ngeh Koo Ham said that there should be no enmity amongst party members after the election, and that both camps should mend bridges to unite and strengthen the party for the forthcoming general election.

When contacted, Sivanesan said that Ngeh had sent him an SMS asking him to join the new state party team as the vice chief.

Asked if he will take up the offer, Sivanesan said that he will need a day or two to decide.

Several attempts to contact Kulasegaran on his mobile for his response to the offer has however failed.

When contacted, Ngeh said that he will be contacting both DAP leaders shortly for their response.

The months leading up to the state election has seen heated rivalry between opposing camps headed by Ngeh and his cousin and state secretary Nga Kor Ming on one side, and Ipoh Barat MP Kulasegaran and state organising secretary Thomas Su on the other.

Ngehs camp trounced their opponents sweeping 14 of the 15 places on the committee.

Special state bureaus formed

When asked what his next steps would be should Kula or Sivanesan decline the offer, Ngeh, who is also the Beruas MP said, “We shall come to it when the time comes, so let us not jump the gun now.”

“I always consider myself as the servant of the people to offer my services to them.

“I am the party leader for all members of the state party, and my aim is to give inclusiveness to all members in the team spirit of DAP,” he added.

In his media conference after obtaining the second highest number of votes (620) among the 40 party candidates in the party election, Ngeh said that besides the usual 15 elected state committee team and five appointed members, he will also create six new party state bureaus to give better coverage and service to the public.

The six bureaus are medical, legal, economic development, voter registration, consumer affairs and welfare.
