Umno will not accept back former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Zaid Ibrahim into the party, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.

NONE“Zaid, we have expelled him. Why should we take him back?" he said when asked on Zaid's chance should he want to return to Umno's fold.

"He will also give us problems. We don't like to have people who give problems. We want people who join our party, the BN component parties, to understand the party struggle, not those who want to pursue their own interests," he told reporters after opening the convocation day for Kemas kindergartens in Putrajaya today.

On Monday, Zaid announced his withdrawal as a candidate for PKR deputy president's post and resignation from all party posts following allegation that there was no transparency in the party election.

However, Zaid, who was expelled from Umno in December 2008 and then joined PKR six months later, has yet to voice his intention to return to Umno's fold.

There have only been reports of his intention to form a new party.
