After falling victim to snatch thieves twice within 48 hours, the second resulting in 11 stitches, DAP women's wing chief Chong Eng today urged the police to intensify their efforts to curb this menace.

The member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam lost her identity card, driving licence and RM1,000 in cash after her handbag was snatched in Bukit Mertajam o­n Sunday night.

"This morning, I was again attacked by a snatch thief who stabbed my hand with a sharp iron rod to force me to surrender my handbag," she said at the Parliament lobby.

The 8.30am incident today occurred near the DAP headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Chong said two men were involved in the theft. o­ne of them waited o­n a motorcycle while his accomplice attacked the MP and grabbed her handbag.
