Councillor, relatives sued over Facebook message
A woman has filed a suit against a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) member, Mahharul Ismail, and three of his family members for allegedly posting defamatory words against her through the social website, Facebook.
A woman has filed a suit against a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) member, Mahharul Ismail, and three of his family members for allegedly posting defamatory words against her through the social website, Facebook.
Zalina Jaafar, 42, filed the suit through her lawyer, Faizul Mohd Nasir, at the Shah Alam High Court registry today.
Besides Mahharul, others named as defendants in the suit are his sisters, Maisarah and Norsyam, and their nephew, Wan Ikhwan Wan Azani.
Zalina, who stated her post as aide to a councillor from PKR, claimed that Mahharul had posted defamatory words against her in his facebook postings last Sept 28.
She claimed that Maisarah and Norsyam had, with malicious intent, posted defamatory words against her, in their postings on Wan Ikhwan's facebook.
Zalina said the words used by the defendants against her had caused serious damage to her character and reputation.
She is seeking damages of RM10 million, exemplary damages, cost and interest of eight per cent a year as well as other relief deem fit by the court.
Zalina is also seeking a court injunction to prevent all the defendants from further using the alleged defamatory words against her.
