The Selangor Forestry Department has taken various enforcement measures, which includes charging individuals in court, in efforts to prevent illegal logging in forest reserves in the state.

State Agriculture, Natural Resources and Entrepreneurial Development committee chairman, Yaakob Sapari, said the department also took other actions such as destroying structures and arresting those who occupied forest reserves illegally.

"These actions include seizing the machinery and equipment as well as demolishing agricultural infrastructure such as breeding ponds, pens or coops," he said in reply to Lee Kim Sin (DAP-Kajang) at the state assembly sitting in Shah Alam today.

On illegal logging, Yaakob said the state government would to take action under the National Forestry Act 1984, which includes charging those involved.

No illegal logging cases were recorded so far this year compared to three cases in 2009, he said.
