Flood eases further in Kedah

The flood in the state eased further this morning with only 9,348 flood victims remaining at relief centres compared to 11,652 yesterday.

The number of flood evacuees was 5,222 from 1,245 families in Kota Setar and 4,126 people from 1,151 families in Kubang Pasu, a flood operations room spokesperson said.
He said there were 21 relief centres still open this morning, 12 of them in Kota Setar and the rest in Kubang Pasu.
Meanwhile, in Jitra, a group of 106 Felda volunteers carried out community work starting today to help flood victims to clean up their houses.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Ahmad Maslan said they would also help clean up mosques and surau in view of the coming Aidiladha.
Speaking to reporters in Jerlun, he said the volunteers would do the clean up in Kubang Pasu, Kuala Kedah and Kota Setar today.
He also called on government-linked companies to do their part in helping the victims restart their lives after the floods.
He also said that Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak should be thankful to the federal government for the initatives to help the flood victims in the state through the National Security Council.
"The state government should not feel slighted by the move and should instead cooperate with the federal government to help the victims," he said, adding that the state PAS government had failed to manage the disaster relief operations.
