The PAS government in Kelantan today acknowledged that parts of local council areas do not enjoy comprehensive local council services due to limited funds from the state government.

State local government, tourism and culture committee chairperson Takiyuddin Hassan said the limited funds resulted in the local councils providing services in stages and according to priority.

Replying to a question from Hanifa Ahmad (PAS-Pengkalan Pasir) in the state assembly, he said the assessment tax would only be imposed once the denied areas enjoyed the local council services.

As such, he said, the state government had waived assessment tax in parts of local council areas which did not enjoy comprehensive local council services.

Replying to another question, from Tuan Zamri Ariff Tuan Zakaria (PAS-Guchil), Takiyuddin said the Kelantan government was considering emulating a few other states in reducing the use of plastic bags.

"Discarded plastic bags are one of the major causes of clogged drains and flash floods," he said, adding that the state was conducting an awareness campaign now and would restrict the use of plastic bags if necessary.
