Ting Tze Fui (DAP-Meradong) was today suspended from attending the current state legislative assembly sitting with immediate effect.
Speaker Mohammad Awang Asfia Awang Nassar made the ruling after 53 assemblymen voted for action to be taken against her, while five, all opposition members, opposed.
Ting was suspended for making the false accusation that "millions and millions of ringgit were unaccounted for, precisely squandered" during a debate on the state budget on Nov 12, last year.
She was referred to the Sarawak legislative assembly's rights and privileges committee for failing to withdraw and substantiate her allegation against the government outside the proceedings on May 21, this year.
Later at a press conference, Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng expressed disappointment over Ting's suspension and claimed the whole proceeding was biased.
