Wanita Umno today challenged the DAP leadership to make an open statement supporting the formation of an Islamic state and the 'hudud' law championed by PAS during the campaign for the by-election for the Galas state constituency.

The movement's information chief Hamidah Osman said this would be in line with the party's tactic to distribute the pamphlets 'Roket kini' which claimed that the DAP respected Islam and was prepared to emulate the administration adopted by chaliph Umar Abdul Aziz.

"If what the DAP says is true, we challenge them to make an open statement supporting the formation of an Islamic state and the hudud law, don't just deceive the voters," she said after visiting the MCA operations room at the Gua Musang old town.

She said such tactics reflected that the DAP was desperate to attract the Malay votes to support the opposition pact.

"When dealing with the Chinese community, they play up racial issues while with the Malays, they will play up other issues to woo support," she said.

In the by-election on Thursday, Barisan Nasional candidate Abdul Aziz Yusof, 49, will face the PAS candidate, Dr Zulkefli Mohamad, 44, in a straight fight.
