This is because foreign NGOs are bent on portraying Score as causing adverse environmental impact and the displacement of locals.
Sarawak govt’ regards media as partners in info dissemination The state government regards the media fraternity in Sarawak as partners in the dissemination of accurate information, especially on the development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score), Second Planning and Resource Management Minister Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said.
He said it was vital to correct the misconception created by foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which were bent on portraying Score as causing adverse environmental impact as well as the displacement of the locals caused by the Bakun dam project.
“On the contrary the local media should highlight the positive aspect of Score's development, which will generate job opportunities and high income for the people," he said at the Essay Writing Award and Media Appreciation Night organised by the Information Department yesterday in Kuching.
The Bakun hydroelectric dam in Belaga is under the auspices of Score.
Awang Tengah also hoped that the department would be able to concentrate on efforts to promote Score among the people so that they would see the benefit of the project in the development of the state.
Earlier Information Department director Resat Salleh said the essay writing competition was to enhance awareness among the society about the country's history, policies and programmes as well as promoting reading and writing culture among the people.
The competition is divided into three languages namely English, Malay and Iban.
