Bogus Harakah hits streets
Bogus copies of the Friday's edition of Harakah , PAS official party organ, have been discovered in Johor Bahru, Subang Jaya, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Terengganu, and even Singapore.
PAS said in a press statement that "the publication of the bogus version is the lowest and most desperate acts of those trying to employ dirty tricks in this election campaign". Harakah has a readership of 300,000.
According to Barisan Alternatif's media spokesperson Rustam Sani, they had received complaints from Harakah readers in various parts of the country claiming to have found the bogus newspaper. "Bundles of the fake newspaper were apparently left with vendors at dawn."
PAS central committee member, Dr. Lo' Lo' Mohd. Ghazali, said the bogus Harakah was of a poorer quality and contained many factual errors.
"This is a dishonourable and desperate tactic by the publisher, distributor and those individuals circulating the bogus Harakah ," she said, adding that Harakah 's chief editor will lodge a police report in Terengganu today.
The official Harakah has 40 pages compared to only 16 pages in the bogus version. Pages 1, 2, 3 and 16 in the fake version contained fabricated articles which have been denied by PAS. All other pages carried "regular" Harakah articles which have been cut and pasted from past issues.
While the official Harakah carried the headlines "Reject Mahathir, Reject BN", the other version had "PAS is not a party without faults, it is a party of human beings, it is not easy to control humans -- Fadzil Noor" and "Not contesting is a final decision -- I regret joining PAS --Haron Din" on its front page.

The second and third pages were headlined "Do not trust DAP dan Keadilan", "Slim Chance for Barisan Alternatif -- Anwar rejects opportunity to become PM", "If it so difficult, let Umno win, easy for everyone -- Mat Sabu", "I will quit politics, Dr Wan Azizah laments" and "I admit I cannot meet the voters, they have to meet me -- Chandra".
The last page (page 16) purportedly contained an exclusive interview with Nik Aziz under a headline stating "Umno's policy and implementation is better than PAS".
On another front, Rustam claimed that further dirty tricks have been employed in the lead-up to tomorrow's polls. He said BA will not stoop to Barisan Nasional's level and reaffirmed its pledge of non-violence irrespective of the outcome of the elections.
