azlan The Election Commission will meet at its headquarters in Putrajaya on Oct 6 to set a date for the Galas by-election.

According to an EC statement today, EC deputy chairperson Wan Ahmad Wan Omar would be holding a press conference after the meeting to announce the nomination and polling dates for the by-election.

It said the EC was officially notified of the vacancy of the seat by the Kelantan state assembly speaker on Tuesday.

The Galas state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyperson Chek Hashim Sulaima, 46, from PAS, on Monday due to cancer.

It is one of three seats in the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency with the other two being Nenggiri and Paloh.
