Those pushing to win divisional level posts in PKR are deluding themselves if they think this will gain them automatic selection as candidates in the next general election.

Kuala Selangor division head and Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrhaim has scotched the notion that victory at this level will be a criterion for candidacy.

He said the involvement of many aspirants for divisional posts could well have arisen from the perception that victory would assist their chances of becoming elected representatives.

While commendingthe road to reform book launching 270910 khalid ibrahim their interest in contesting the party polls, Khalid said a win at divisional level "does not mean anything (in relation) to the position of the elected representative".

Rather, those voted into divisional posts " will (help) design and plan the future direction of the party".

He was speaking to reporters after Pakatan Rakyat's ‘Road to Reform’ book launch in Petaling Jaya last night.

On Sunday, the nomination process at the Kota Raja division turned violent when supporters of different candidates disrupted counting, causing a brawl to break out.

Police reports were lodged and the ballot boxes have since been sent to the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya for counting this morning.

Admitting that the ruckus has damaged the party’s image, Khalid said: "We should put a stop to this. We shouldn't condone (undemocratic and ungentlemanly practices).

“We should have a forum to discuss differences ....We hope that maturity will come into Keadilan politics."
