Rural and Regional Development Minister Mohd Shafie Afdal today reiterated that projects under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) were not empty promises.

He said NKRA projects, especially in the rural areas of Sabah and Sarawak, were the government's responsibility towards the people and he was confident they could be completed on time.

"This will allow us to identify the needs and capabilities in carrying out the project, with focus on providing basic facilities such as roads, water and power supply," Shafie ( right ) told reporters after attending an Aidifitri open house organised by agencies under his ministry, at Lahad Datu.

He added that NKRA projects for Sabah were focused more on housing for the hardcore poor, roads, water and electricity supply.

Meanwhile, commenting on allegations by the Opposition that he had an interest in the projects, Mohd Shafie said they "were a bunch of lies" aimed at tarnishing his image.
