Actor Farid Amirul Hisham Abdullah, better known as detective Lim of police TV series Gerak Khas, walked a free man after the Kuala Lumpur High Court today overturned a Magistrate's Court decision in convicting and sentencing him for stealing two books at Mid Valley Megamall.

Judge Mohd Sofian Abd Razak, in allowing Farid Amirul's appeal against the conviction and sentence, said there was no proof that the two books were stolen by the actor.

"There was no proof to show that the two books were stolen by the accused because there was no marking of the exhibits made by the investigating officer.

"The identity of the exhibits is doubtful, whether the books which were produced in court were the exhibits found at the crime scene," he added.

The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court, had on Dec 17 last year, sentenced Farid Amirul to two months’ jail and fined him RM2,000 for stealing two books at Mid Valley Megamall.

Farid Amirul was charged with stealing 'Sistine Secrets' priced at RM89.90 and 'Decoding The Heavens' priced at RM105 from MPH Bookstore, Mid Valley Megamall, at 7.15pm on March 27 last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Faizah Mohd Salleh prosecuted, while Farid Amirul was represented by lawyer Nor Azri Mohd Arif.

Met by reporters outside the court, Farid Amirul said he felt relief with the court's decision.

"It is a gift for my parents, especially my mother, who is not well," he added.
