The Lembah Pantai MP (right) says she is encouraged by the 8 nominations she has received for the post of party vice president.
She officially announced her decision to compete today, and said that she is ready to take on more experienced party leaders in the upcoming race, and to shoulder the aspirations of her nominees.
"I'm indeed grateful because of your nominations or members voices (that) shall become my own voice, as I humbly embrace the opportunity and the responsibility to serve.
"I wouldn't call it a reverse decision, I did say I will focus on divisional level election in Lembah Pantai.
"However, I seriously considered offering myself and I think we should not take lightly that the nominations came from members even though there hasn't been any active campaigning on my part," said Nurul Izzah at a press conference at her Lembah Pantai service centre.
The vocal parliamentarian asserted that her decision does not entrench her family dynasty within the party.
"I'm the daughter of (PKR de facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim, I can't ever erase that fact but I'm also the daughter of the reformasi movement," she said.
"The 12 years has helped me gain a foothold and given me the readiness and conviction to proceed.
"There is no looking back so in the spirit of reformasi I'm moving on," said Nurul Izzah.
Notwithstanding her family's influence on the party, she stressed that she's her own person and that running for vice president was her individual decision.
Asked whether her parents’ standing in the party would effect her chances, Nurul Izzah said:
"I think it works both ways it can be a deterrent but whatever it is I am my own person and I don't think anyone's loyalty should be for any individual but for the party.

"Of course its important to have my parents’ blessing but I'm also encouraged by the blessing given by the nominations of the various divisions".
Nurul Izzah had previously said that she would focus on the divisional level election and defend her post as the Lembah Pantai party chief rather than going for any supreme council seat.
