'Noisy, sexy' ge tai resolved amicably

RubyStar: Congratulations and salutations all around for the maturity of the groups involved in the ge tai row and for their openness and willingness to come to the table to discuss the problems that affect the community as a whole.

This is 1Malaysia at its best, not the rhetoric as spun by BN. Please keep this type of dialogue going on whatever issues that relate to religion, race and the community. This is the first step towards racial harmony and it sends a strong message to the Umnoputras in Penang not to put a spanner into the works and instigate the Malays to go against the state government.

Hamisu: This should have been the proper way to resolve the issues in the first place. For Mohideen Abdul Kadir to blast out in the media and making accusations was clearly not acceptable.

But with this change in tune, I am giving my thumbs up to all parties involved. Mutual respect has been key to this issue. Please spread around this excellent example. If the majority of such issues are discussed through dialogue, this country would be very much at peace. There's no need to promote tolerance. All we need is understanding. Good work!

Johnny Rambo: Brother Mohideen, we Malaysians can live in peace and harmony. If every citizen, irrespective of race and religion, can tolerate and respect one another and settle differences amicably through proper channels and discuss in a humane manner, even the biggest problems could be resolve.

After all, we are all born humans with God-given senses. Use them proper, and at the end of day you will feel really happy and satisfied that things have gone smoothly. You can sleep well, peacefully and have sweet dreams. Keep up the good work, brother. Allah is with you.

Lvbala: A win-win situation. We are Malaysians and we must respect each other and try to compromise so we can live in harmony. This has proven that Penang state is doing great and practices multiculturalism among the rakyat. BN should learn from this. Good deeds like this should be shared.

The Malaysian: Yes, this is the way forward. Will all politicians in the respective government bodies please learn from all our righteous fellow Malaysians here? The genuine concerns of the rakyat are being handled in a fair, mature and open manner. Congratulations to all concerned.

Loyal Malaysian: I'm glad the issue has been resolved amicably. In the first instance, I have always been against this corruption of the Hungry Ghost Festival. The 'noisy, sexy' ge tai were not part of the Hungry Ghost Festival observances. It was introduced a few years back because the traditional opera shows were not able to bring out the numbers to support the costs of staging the traditional observances.

Unconvinced: What if the surau or mosque is too loud? Where to complain?

Kama Mustaffa: In the UK, the azan can be heard through speakers of the houses that are connected to the mosques via cable and wireless. Perhaps this is the way forward. We can use use technology to solve this problem.


DAP: Umno should stop abusing Article 153

Rayfire: This article express my sentiments exactly. Stop using the constitution as an excuse to continue with your plundering of the nation's wealth. The same modus operandi, whenever a question is raised about NEP or its implementation, is for them to say:

1) Don't test our patience
2) It is against race, religion
3) You're going against the king or sultan
4) Don't question constitutional matters

Please, for heaven's sake, stop this routine drama. This goes for both sides of the political divide. The constitution is a man-made law. If it hinders you from progress, changes can be made if all parties involved agree. It is not like they've never changed it before. Our constitution has been changed more times than the US constitution, which has been around longer.

Malaysians, please don't entertain Perkasa and their antics anymore. Those fellows should be sent to oblivion.

KSN: The abuse of Article 153 has been an open secret. While the abuse was explained as being carried out by Umno denying non-Malays their legitimate rights as citizens from the time Dr Mahathir Mohamad became PM, what were the other component parties of BN, especially MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP, etc, doing in the coalition? Selling out non-Malay rights for personal gains?

These parties have a lot to answer to the communities they claim to champion, represent and look after.


Protestors demand Ronnie Liu's resignation

Mummy: Tee Boon Hock has proven himself to be a political stooge. If you are found guilty and removed, accept it as a fact of life. If you persist and pay people to stage protests, it only goes to show the wealth you have accumulated while in office.

You joined the wrong party to make money. DAP is not a party for money-minded people like you. Get lost and stop your drama. There is no way for you to be part of the Pakatan Rakyat government. Go join MCA, Gerakan or PPP.

Swipenter: During the 13th general elections, if Ronnie Liu is still nominated to stand for election in the same constituency, then please exercise your votes to show your happiness or displeasure with him as your Adun (state representative). By all means, kick him out for non-performance if that is the case.
