The Home Ministry will record the statements of human trafficking victims to be used in court proceeding against the perpetrators of such activities, Deputy Home Minister Abu Seman Yusop said.

He said that at the moment, the ministry had set up three shelters for the victims, one at the KL International Airport in Sepang, another in Belenu, Sarawak and one in Malacca.

 

"We will record the statements in these centres," he told reporters after handing over allowance payment and Raya goodies to staff of the centre in Tanjung Keling, Malacca last night.

Children and women victims, he said, would be placed at three shelter homes - one in Likas, Sabah, and two in Kuala Lumpur - run by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

He said the victims would be sent home within six months after their placement at the centres.

The Tanjung Keling centre started operations on Aug 15 and currently houses 68 people comprising 33 Bangladeshis, 25 Sri Lankans, eight Vietnamese and two Indian nationals.
