Final decision on Sabah 12 tomorrow

PKR’s political bureau is expected to come up with a final decision on the position of the so-called ‘Sabah 12’ by tomorrow, said secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.
PKR’s political bureau is expected to come up with a final decision on the position of the so-called ‘Sabah 12’ by tomorrow, said secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.
He said the dozen, who were suspended from the party for attempting to register a new party known as Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), have submitted their appeals in a steady stream since last week.
Saifuddin (left) noted however that because all 12 submitted individual letters detailing different arguments in their defence, the bureau will have to “look at it case by case”.
“I think we can expect to see a different ruling on each case. It is safe to say that I will be able to announce the final decision by tomorrow,” he said when contacted today.
Saifuddin noted that procedurally, the appeals will have to be handled by the supreme council but there are provisions that allow it to be handed over to the political bureau in the absence of a council meeting.
The supreme council on Aug 29 endorsed the disciplinary committee’s recommendation that the 12 be handed a one-year suspension backdated to Jan 4 this year.
Saifuddin had earlier explained that the backdate was necessary in view of the Registrar of Societies’ confirmation that PCS’s registration was withdrawn on that date.
He noted that the party’s supreme council was prepared to expedite the appeal process so as not to prejudice the 12’s involvement in the party elections later this year.
Among the dozen - who are all seen as supporters of PKR vice-president Jeffrey Kitingan (right) - are PCS pro-tem president Daniel John Jambun, his deputy Awang Ahmad Sah and secretary Moses Iking.
