Nazri lodges report over fake Facebook page

While many fake pages of politicians and celebrities have mushroomed on various social media and networking sites, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is clearly unamused with one on himself.

Taking a serious view of the matter, Nazri (left), who is also the de facto law minister, lodged a police report against the page which even came complete with a photo of himself.
Lodging the report on his behalf was his press secretary Ahmad Fazli Ahamad Nordin, who said that the Facebook page of Nazri did not belong to the minister, nor was he aware of it.
“Every bit of information on the website is used without the permission or knowledge of Nazri Aziz,” said Ahmad Fazli in his police report.
A quick check on the social networking website showed that “Nazri’s” Facebook page is still active, with the owner regularly bantering with his 136 “friends” on the page.
When contacted by Malaysiakini, the real Nazri said that he is upset with the Facebook page.
“I found out last week when my son informed me. This man’s a fake! I don’t understand why he’s doing this. It’s not helpful at all,” he said.
He also said that the owner may have ulterior motives up his or her sleeves to eventually tarnish his image.
“I suspect that those who engage with him on Facebook will not be able to get help from him. He’s trying to get people angry with me.
“Because people come to ‘me’ on Facebook and ask for my help, and all this man does is to tell them to see the district officer. Anyone can do that. Eventually people will get fed up of ‘me’ and attack me,” he said.
Adding that the episode is an “abuse of technology”, the minister in charge of parlimentary affairs also revealed that he does not have any Facebook page, a Twitter account nor even an email address.
“If I have Twitter, I have to maybe sit around for 24 hours and tweet. If I have an email address, I get rubbish sent to me. Facebook is the same. It takes too much of my time,” said the fiery Padang Rengas MP.
Perkasa lodges report against Nurul Izzah
Nazri’s police report only capped off the series of other police reports lodged by other politicians around the country today.
Wirawati Perkasa lodged a report against Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah for allegedly questioning the special position of Malays provided under Article 153 of the federal constitution.
Wirawati chief Zaira Jaafar said that Nurul’s article titled ‘The ultimate Malaysian debate: Malaysia or Malaysaja?’ posted on Aug 31 on her website may have seditious elements and urged the police to conduct an investigation.
“In the article, she questioned the special position provided under Article 153 of the constitution. She even wanted to debate about this. This is seditious because we are not supposed to question this provision,” she told Malaysiakini after lodging the police report at Dang Wangi police station today.
Zaira claimed that Nurul (right) also allegedly said that Malay rights is only an ideology and is not a legal right nor is it provided under the constitution, which is also seditious.
"How can she (Nurul) say that Malay rights is only an ideology? It is clearly provided for in the constitution," she said.
When asked if Perkasa will accept Nurul’s invitation to have a dialogue, Zaira gave a stern no.
“How can we have a dialogue about issues that are not debatable under the law? We are not suppose to even talk about it,” she added.
Zaira also urged Nurul to be more ‘sensitive’ when broaching issues of constitutional provisions and special rights.
“Please stop talking like that since you (Nurul) are not only an MP, but also a Malay and Muslim. You (Nurul) can offend others when you behave like this. You (Nurul) should be more sensitive when talking about special rights and the constitution,” she said.
PAS fires a salvo at Zam
Earlier, PAS also filed a police complaint against former information minister Zainuddin Maidin for allegedly defaming the party.
Zainuddin had, in an interview with Umno-Online, claimed that PAS had asked then-prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj to “seize” the assets of the Chinese during the May 13 racial riots.
He also claimed that PAS had sided with Indonesia during the Confrontation back in the 1960s, when bilateral ties between Malaysia and the republic was at an all-time low.
The party had also lodged a report against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over an alleged threat to judges made during a speech in which he said that Felda would ensure that they win future suits filed by settlers.
Meanwhile in Penang, Pakatan Rakyat parties filed police reports over a doctored photo of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng showing him supposedly slaughtering a cow for consumption by Muslims.
