MIC president S.Samy Vellu said he would definitely step down from his post as the party now had capable second echelon leaders to continue MIC's struggle.

He said MIC now had one minister and four deputy ministers, whereby these young leaders would come to the fore and do better for the party than what he had done.

samy vellu mic agm 110710 04"It is my hope to see these young leaders work hard to steer the direction of the party to achieve its goals," said Samy Vellu (left) after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of agreement between TAFE College Seremban, Air-Tech Bildung (ATB) from Germany and Dnest Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, in Seremban today.

He was earlier asked to comment on the reported speculation that he would let go the MIC presidency earlier than expected.

Samy Vellu however dismissed the newspaper report as the reporter's own imagination.

"I congratulate the reporter concerned for her imagination. I don't deny that I will be stepping down as MIC president but not according to the time stated by the reporter. Only I know and will announce the date of my retirement.

"I will definitely relinquish my post and now is the time for me to discuss with the divisions and branches on stabilising the party to make it stronger and more united.

"I have my own plans and as I had said before, this would be my last term and after this I will give a date which some people won't like. The problem is these people want me to step down immediately," he said.

On another note, Samy Vellu said he would meet with Public Service Commission chairman Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ahmad Damanhuri soon to discuss on recruiting more qualified Indians into the public sector.
