Anti-ISA protestors: Charge us or set us free

Police bail has been extended again for the 30 protestors who were arrested during the 50th commemoration of the Internal Security Act (ISA) vigil.
Police bail has been extended again for the 30 protestors who were arrested during the 50th commemoration of the Internal Security Act (ISA) vigil on Aug 1.
This time the bail is extended for another one month until Oct 1.
The bail which was originally for two weeks, ended on Aug 16 and was extended for two more weeks, which expires today.
Parti Sosialis Malaysia Secretary General, S Arutchelvan (left), said that they will write to the Attorney General's Office and the Petaling Jaya police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed.
"We have been here twice already, if they wants to charge us, please do so," he said.
Arutchelvan added that they had informed the police that coming to police station every two weeks to renew bail is a hassle and he hoped the police could forego this requirement, explaining that this had been done in the past.
"Some of them are from Cameron Highlands and they have to come to Petaling Jaya for this," he said.
"There is no question of running away, we will go to court once we are charged."
Nationwide arrests
On Aug 1, 36 activists were arrested nationwide for holding candlelight vigils commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ISA in eight places around the country.
30 were arrested at the Dataran MBPJ, Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya. Among those arrested were Arutchelvan, Suaram coordinator E Nalini and PKR supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin.
Arjunaidi claimed that the arrests were made because the assembly was held without a permit.
This time the bail is extended for another one month until Oct 1.
The bail which was originally for two weeks, ended on Aug 16 and was extended for two more weeks, which expires today.
