In an email media statement yesterday, Party national assistant treasurer Nga Kor Ming (right) asked if the BN government was willing to sacrifice the vested interests of their cronies for the benefit of the people.
"Or is it crony first, performance later- satu lagi projek Barisan Nasional?" the DAP leader asked sarcastically in comparison to Premier Najib Abdul Razak's 1Malaysia slogan `People first, Performance now'.
Nga who is also Taiping MP and Pantai Remis assemblyperson, reasoned that these are the problems which the government must have the political will to curb, in order to benefit the people.
He said saying no to GST will never be difficult if the government has the people's interest in mind.
According to the Prime Minister's Department, 58 percent of the Malaysian families have a monthly income of less than RM3,000 and 8.6 percent live on less than RM1,000 per month.
"In view of such an income structure, the imposition of GST will be disastrous to the poor," argued Nga.
