A series of demonstrations outside the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta and the "sweeping" threats against Malaysians in the capital have raised concern from intended travellers.

Malaysian embassy head of chancery Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah said he received several calls from Malaysians asking whether it was safe to travel to Jakarta and whether they should cancel their trips.

"I told them that the situation is under control. So far, the embassy has not issue any travel advisory to Malaysians. We have yet to press the panic button," he said when contacted.

NONEHe said Malaysians visiting Jakarta should inform the embassy where they were staying to enable it to render assistance if necessary.

This afternoon, 30 members of the People's Democratic Defence Group (Bendera) staged a protest peacefully for about 20 minutes under the watchful eyes of about 60 policemen.

They left on their motorcycles after pasting a picture of a flag adorned with a skill design at the embassy's gate.

On Monday, Bendera demonstrators (left) stomped on the Malaysian flag and smeared it with human faeces, and also threw faeces at the embassy.

The demonstration was in protest against Malaysia over the arrest of three Indonesian fisheries officials, who have since been released.
