The Perak Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia wants to develop a 'contractors town' in every district in the state that will become the centre for Malay contractors' activities.

President Jamaludin Abdul Rahim said the project named 'Malay contractors town' will house bumiputera contractors in every district at a centre that has an office and commercial area.

"The idea was approved at the association's meeting. We will request the state government to approve suitable sites for the purpose.

"We will meet Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir soon for the approvals and seek his views on our proposal. Similar projects can be carried out by other states," he told reporters in Ipoh today.

Jamaludin said while Malay contractors have adequate funds to develop such projects, the size of the project would depend on the land approved.

On another matter, Jamaludin chided MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek for questioning the quota system for bumiputera entrepreneurs as it would arouse anger among Malay businessmen.

He said the "uncalled for" and "insensitive" remarks could create inter-racial tension in a peaceful nation like Malaysia.
