Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said that although he had made two corrections in his Facebook postings, regarding a recent  investigation of a crime, the public should not be confused as the information came directly from him.

 "If the information comes from me, then it should not be confusing," he said.

khalid abu bakarYesterday some lawyers commented on his Facebook posting on Aug 3 which revealed information on the death of former Permatang assemblyperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Noh and his personal assistant.

However, he made two correctional updates to the posting.

First he denied that Abdul Aziz had been shot, dismissing it as a rumour. This was corrected in an hour when he confirmed that Abdul Aziz and his aide had indeed been shot.

Then Khalid (left) posted that the preliminary autopsy report suggesting that Abdul Aziz sustained two gunshot wounds while his female aide sustained one.

Khalid then made a second correction, saying that the woman had two gunshot wounds while Abdul Aziz had one.

Mixed reactions

Although Khalid's use of the Facebook drew mixed reactions, they are most concerned over the two changes on the posting, saying that he should have verified his facts before posting.

But Khalid dismissed these criticisms, saying that as long as the information was from him, then confusion should not arise as he had updated them.

When asked why he posted the investigation updates in Facebook, he said: "It was to prevent rumours and wild speculation among the public."

It remains to be seen whether he will continue to use social networking tools like Facebook to disseminate information to the public in the future.

"I have no further comment," he said, when pressed further on the matter.
