Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and his aide have been asked by the police to provide DNA samples and finger prints over a death threat and live bullet he received in the mail.

NONE According to Pua, the police required the evidence to ensure that he and his aide did not send the package.

“When they locate the fingerprints and DNA, they have to isolate ours from the mix,” he said.

The police suspected that the actual sender may have left saliva and other forms of identification on the stamp.

Pua also said that he had consulted his lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, who confirmed that the recording of fingerprints and DNA samples was a normal procedure for cases of such nature.

The prints from his aide will be recorded at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters while DNA samples from both individuals will be taken at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.

Pua said that no further statements were recorded from him today, and lamented that he was made to wait for 45 minutes by the investigation officer.

He also expressed disappointment that neither the prime minister nor the police chief have denounced the incident, although it has been a week since a police report has been lodged.

"Without condemnation, the people responsible may feel encouraged to do it again in the future," he added.

Pua who is also the DAP publicity secretary received the live bullet on Aug 11 at his office which was accompanied with a letter that threatened to harm him and his family.

Police have confirmed that the bullet is local-made for an M16 rifle.
