MB: No need for Liu to resign

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said there was no need for Ronnie Liu to resign as a state exco member as demanded by some DAP leaders.

He said any decision on Liu’s position would only be considered after the state’s audit team produces its report over dubious letters of support for companies bidding for state projects, purportedly issued by the exco member’s former aides.

“We have started an audit in Klang, for a start, which will be carried out in other areas in the future... The auditor’s report will be out next week and I will announce (its findings) soon after that,” said Khalid (centre in photo).

He dismissed repeated suggestions by journalists that Liu was partly responsible for the debacle, stating that there was insufficient evidence to prove any wrongdoing on the part of the latter.

He stressed that the audit department’s report should be studied before making any conclusions.

“Based on findings (up until now), there is no issue with Ronnie Liu with regard to the support letters,” he said.

Khalid added that the audit reports would eventually be made public, because the Selangor administration practices transparency.

Liu (left) was issued a “severe reprimand” by the DAP disciplinary committee for failing to manage his public office in a professional manner, leading to the debacle over the letters.

His former aide Tee Boon Hock was alleged to have misused his letterhead and seal to issue support letters to a company linked to his son. For this, Tee was sacked from DAP and stripped of his post as Klang municipal councillor by the Selangor government.

Following Liu’s disciplinary hearing, DAP central committee member Teng Chang Khim openly called for the former to take responsibility over the issue and resign.

Liu’s supporters retorted yesterday by claiming that Teng had also issued support letters for several companies, three of which had received similar letters from Tee.
